Each year I choose a Word of the Year. A word to live by as your vision, your guiding light, your North Star. A word that allows you to focus on what matters most to you for 365 days. For 2019, my Word of the Year was CLEAN. A cleaner way of life. A more organized home. A cleaner perspective.
My explanation and first steps towards a CLEAN perspective can be found here: 5 Simple Changes to a Healthier Kitchen

The reason this word was so important to me was because of a realization I had after downloading the “Think Dirty” app on my phone. I think I always knew how bad a lot of our daily products were for us, but enter three kids into your world and you start to see how bad the products you use on THEM really are, too. The regulations just aren’t there to prohibit companies from filling those baby products to the gills with chemicals that aren’t thoroughly tested or are known to harm even our littlest ones.
It was time for me to change my mentality and not just know it was all bad for my family. It was time to actually do something about it!
That’s when I discovered Grove Collaborative. A flexible recurring shipment service that has one goal: safer, environmentally-friendly products made easily available, for everyone. Grove’s flexible recurring shipment service delivers only the best natural products each month.
Every product they sell has been rigorously tested by industry experts for health, effectiveness, and environmental impact and must pass their tests to be non-toxic, plant-based, 100% cruelty-free, ethical supply chains, sustainable materials, and full ingredient transparency.
Okay, okay, okay! I see you and your amazing policies, Grove! 🙂 I signed up, spent time rooting through the website finding new products to try, and got started with a recurring shipment.
One year later…I’m still in love and look forward to every shipment I receive.

So to start your year off a little CLEANER and a lot HEALTHIER, I wanted to revisit Grove Collaborative and share with you just what I get each month in my shipment!

Mrs. Meyer’s cleaning products – hand soap, dish soap, multi-surface cleaner

If you’ve used Mrs. Meyer’s products before, you just know. These are the gold standard of “cutting through grease and grime, yet not going to rock my hands and dry them out something horrible.” It’s popular and for good reason. I love the scents, I love how effective it is, and I love that my hands aren’t in pain because of the harsh chemicals. All cleaning agents are natural and super effective!
Dish Brush and Tough Stuff Brush

These two purchases are on a constant cycle with my orders because I use them all.the.time. So much so, I had to actually skip the photo of my Tough Stuff Brush because it’s completely and totally worn out! No one wants to see an overworked brush, so here’s a snapshot of the pretty one online. 🙂

Okay, hear me out on this one. When I originally saw a powder cleanser being advertised, I laughed thinking how old fashioned that was. I had a total flashback of my grandmother, born in 1919, cleaning her massive clawfoot tub with this stuff when I was growing up. Hasn’t science made things better and these should be null and void?! But the reviews on this product are still INCREDIBLE. I bought it a few months back and used it to clean my tub to see what it could do. And then I used it on my tile floors. And then I used it on my appliances. And then I… You get the point. It’s old school and it’s still a bestseller for good reason. It gets the job done when you need a thorough clean and not a liquid that just runs down your surfaces. It sticks, it cleans, it disinfectants and it leaves it leaving CLEAN.

I’ve been using these for a little over a year now after I read about all the dangerous chemicals that are inside our dryer sheets. Do one quick Google search on dryer sheets and the words “cancer” and “asthma” pop up immediately. We’re talking chemicals that are found in car exhaust are also in our favorite dryer sheets.
“Some people love the scent, but unfortunately, dryer sheets can contain harmful chemicals that adhere to clothes, vent into the air, and rub off on your skin. These chemicals can cause health problems because they can mimic estrogen and trigger asthma.”
Awesome…
So I use these wool dryer balls with a safety pin looped in to each one to help prevent static. To keep your laundry fresh and to get the same effects as the dryer sheet scents, choose your favorite essential oils and drop a few drops on each dryer ball. The heat will activate the scent each time you start your dryer and will transfer to your clothes. Healthy way of getting all the benefits of your dryer sheets, minus the cancer-causing chemicals.
Rooted Beauty Purifying Facial Towelettes

I originally ordered these before I was taking a flight to see family. I always get off a plane feeling oily, and I wanted something that I could freshen up my face before heading to dinner after an airport pickup. The reviews were wonderful and I thought I’d give them a shot. 8 months later and I’m still buying them every month. This was the first towelette that was taking off my makeup effectively AND not causing me to breakout around my chin. Even if I used my normal cleanser after wiping off my makeup, I was still dealing with breakouts using many other brands. When it wasn’t happening with these wipes, I decided I’m sticking to it and I’m never looking back. Every month these are on my doorstep and I love the convenience of that!

Remember me talking about my hand earlier? A serious issue when I’m constantly washing my hands or globbing on oodles of hand sanitizer with every kid’s sneeze. I tried out this hand sanitizer because it starts off with “hydrating.” Has to be worth a shot! Does. The. Job. Take my word on this one. It soothes your hands while killing the nasty bacteria swarming all around us this winter season.
Babyganics – Insect Repellent, Bubble Bath, and Hand Sanitizing Wipes
Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Diaper Rash Ointment

These baby products are old faithfuls in my household. I’ve used all of these products on my children since Jacks was an infant. All three kids have had dry skin and the boys have had their fair share of eczema breakouts on their arms, but these products soothe instead of irritate. My pediatrician recommends every one of them and I can stand here and attest to them being healthy and keeping my kids safe. I love that I can snag these on Grove and have them delivered right to my door each and every month!
