Making holidays fun for kids is one of my favorite things to do as a mama. There are so many ways you can make each one magical and create some fun traditions with your littles. As mentioned in about every one of my food posts, I grew up where food = celebrations, so I like to make each holiday morning special with a fun breakfast. Thanksgiving, it’s making a turkey out of every possible breakfast food, Christmas is all about Christmas tree pancakes, and the 4th is all about…donuts. 🙂
There’s already so much cooking/grilling/drinking/snacking/did I mention drinking? going on the 4th of July, I like to make this breakfast a simple one that doesn’t require one more ounce of time in the kitchen. Park yourself outside and eat al fresco with these adorable and simple 4th of July powdered donuts!
Ingredients
Mini powdered donuts – I used a 1 bag of Hostess Donettes
Red candy melts – I find the ones you can melt in the bag are easiest to melt and drizzle
Blue sprinkles – find fun patriotic ones at your local grocery store, Target, or Michaels
Recipe
Space donuts out on parchment paper. Melt red candy melts according to package directions. Once melted, drizzle over donuts concentrating on thick and thin drizzles, as desired. Before candy hardens, sprinkle your patriotic sprinkles over the top of donuts. Let sit for 20-30 minutes until candy hardens completely. Store in airtight container for up to 3 days.
Great idea!! Love how simple it is but so cute!
Thanks!! Such a simple idea and fun to do with the kids!
Super cute! May be a silly question, but can you buy candy melts from any grocery store? This will be my first go at a holiday breakfast! Keeping this one simple has me hooked!
Not silly! I have gotten them before at Price Chopper but always have the best luck on them being in stock at Target or Walmart.
