A Little Note to Take Care of You Today

I’m coming to you today as just a little friendly reminder that it’s important to take care of you. Today is about remembering the fundamental pieces that keep us well, thriving, and the best we can be. Women can get so wrapped up in taking care of our spouses, our children, our homes, our jobs, our side hustles, our DIY projects, our kid’s schools and sports teams, our bills, our bank accounts, our whole worlds. We are the CEOs of our families and that is a full-time job plus more.

With all that responsibility, we tend to lose a little bit of ourselves and a critical focus on our health. It was January 2021 when I wrote down my monthly goal was to find a primary care physician. My first one since I was 18 and going to my small town doctor growing up. It’s been an astounding 17 years since I’ve been to a doctor for a physical, a health exam, or even for an illness. I’m health-conscious, I’m active, I’m highly aware of what I should be doing to keep myself healthy, but I don’t even have a primary care physician. That would be something I would NEVER let happen for my husband or my children, but for myself? I’ve let is slip through the cracks (or in this case, a massive fault line) for 17 years.

I lost my mom when I was 28 years old. I’m not positive that anything I’m vouching to change would have saved her from two cancer diagnosis, but I know one thing is for certain…I can’t let a busy family and an even busier schedule let vital aspects of my health go any longer. I want to be there for my family as long as possible. Taking just a little bit of time to take care of me may just add precious years to the time I have with my family.

So I imagine that if I have let so many parts of taking care of myself go unattended to, there may be a whole group of people reading this that have done much the same. So let’s vouch together that we will take steps to take care of ourselves starting now.

Remember to take care of yourself this week. Make a plan for your health and follow through. You’re worth it, lady. We need you to be the best you can be!
