Pinch Pleat Curtains Inspiration

Most times, when I’m starting to brainstorm what I envision in my spaces, I go straight to Pinterest. I don’t like to scroll through most social media, but Pinterest? I could spend hours on it. The ideas that spark within me from looking at other people’s homes is incredible. I can see a full room, but hone in on just their table, just their color palette, or just their curtain rods. It makes me sit back and look at my home and how it would work in ours. Or I take their design and adapt it to fit the functionality and purpose within my home.

So as I’m preparing for my first project of 2023 (yay!!), you better believe I’ve gotten all sorts of inspiration from looking through beautiful homes on Pinterest. I’m pinning rooms that are aesthetically beautiful, but also have the details that I love within my own: color contrast, mixed metals, browns and wood tones, and plenty of neutral bases with pops of color.

Today, I’m going to share with you an introduction to my project this week, as well as share the photos that have inspired my “before” to become something so much more!

If you were here when I put up the board and batten wall and IKEA bench seat hack in my front room this fall, you probably noticed the curtains in the room. Yikes! Sorry about that.

Let me rewind on these curtains…when we finished our remodel in 2018, I was exhausted. I was tired of making decision. I was tired of making design plans. I was just tired. So there were a few areas that I didn’t have the energy to make just right, and these front room curtains were most definitely in that list. Instead of taking my time, I went to Walmart and I purchased the most inexpensive curtain rods and curtains that would just “work” until I could muster the energy to really look into window treatments.

You know how the rest goes…

We are now nearing 5 years since the remodel and I still have those Walmart curtains and rods hanging. And to make matters worse, I went and washed them and they severely shrunk in the wash. So these suckers are hanging a solid 3″ above the floor.

This week, I’m taking these windows and giving them a much-needed upgrade!

I’m:

• taking down our old wood blinds that came with the house
• creating my own set of DIY Pinch Pleat curtains
• installing these all on new rods that fit our spaces all across the front of the house

I want my new curtains to be inexpensive (why I’m doing this the DIY way!), but look like they have a far higher price point. A tad formal and a tad structured to sit against the more casual board and batten wall and the comfort of the front sitting room. Pinch pleat is going to give me that high-end look.

Emily did such a beautiful job on this room and I love the contrast of the black and white mixed with the wood tones. What a fabulous idea to show off that gorgeous window trim by pushing her curtains all to one side.

I’m immediately taken by a bright, airy Southern home, and that’s all I feel when I look at this baby’s nursery. Kelly did a gorgeous job of designing this room and mixing the formality of her pinch pleat against the childish wonder of the nursery.

This was a major inspiration for me for my front sitting rooms. I love how the mix of textures and dimensions, along with the structure of the pinch pleat all works so well together. There’s no pattern to the curtains, no expensive brand tied to it. These could be bargain-store curtains that are stunning because of how they hang.

After taking a look at this photo, I’ve been inspired to look into the combination of these shades and the pinch pleat curtains to get a pulled together, yet very casual look. Scrolling through this entire home had me Pinning and planning in every space. I love the coastal and casual feel of this home and all the ways that it’s styled.
