This Easter, we are heading up for the day to my in-laws for a great little day of Easter egg hunts, time with family, and of course, a full dinner that will have me craving leftovers for days to come. But with a family our size, leftovers are few and far between. My solution? Make a full Easter dinner for my little family of four the week before so I get all the leftovers I can handle! 🙂
This year, I attempted a Honey Baked Ham myself. Getting the sweet flavor without the crazy marked-up price. The trick I found? Slow cook it, dry rub the glaze, and BROIL! You get that great caramelized sweetness on the edges without drying out the center. And it’s done with things mostly all found in your pantry. The only cost I accrued was the price of the ham…which conveniently is discounted at our favorite grocery stores. Win-win-win-win….win? 🙂
Hosting this year? Want to try cooking a ham for an upcoming get together? Just want to put yourself in a sweet and salty induced coma? I’ve got you covered with this simple and delicious Honey Baked Ham Copycat Recipe!

Ingredients
- 8 lb. bone-in, spiral-sliced ham
- 2 Tablespoons melted butter
- 3 Tablespoons honey
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice

Instructions
Place ham into slow cooker, trimming pieces if needed to make it fit. In a small bowl, combine melted butter and honey. Rub mixture all over the outside of the ham, trying to get into the spiral slices as you can. Cover and cook on low heat for 4.5-5 hours.
At the end of the cook time, preheat your oven broiled to high. Line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil.
Combine sugar, onion powder, cinnamon, nutmet, paprika and allspice in a small bowl. Divide mixture in half and dry rub your mixture over the top of the ham.
Place ham on the covered cookie sheet (DON’T DUMP SLOW COOKER YET!) and broil for 3-4 minutes until the outside becomes bubbly and caramelized. Remove from the oven.
In a small saucepan, add the remaining sugar mixture, and add 1 cup of remaining juice from the slow cooker. Stir and heat to a boil. Remove from heat.
Pour the glaze over the ham and broil for an additional 1-2 minutes. BE CAREFUL TO NOT LET IT BURN! Remove from oven and let rest for 10 minutes. Serve warm and enjoy the sweet deliciousness of this copycat recipe!

xx Rachel
Do you set the slow cooker on low or high?
Sorry about that! It is set to low for that time.
